Natural Ways to Eliminate Your Acne

Whether you’re suffering from an acne outbreak brought on by puberty or you’re just one of the unlucky few that will struggle with acne your entire life (like me), it’s not uncommon to constantly try everything that you possibly can to alleviate some of the symptoms. If you’re new to the game, you probably ran out to the drug store and bought the first alcohol-based face wipes you could find and started cleaning your skin routinely. Though you’ll get results from these chemical-laden wipes for the first few weeks, soon you’ll realize that they aren’t the best long-term solution and the side effects are actually quite undesirable.

The main side effect that commercial acne treatments create is dried out flaky skin. Commercial face wipes eliminate all the oils and healthy bacteria from your skin, so you’re literally throwing out the good with the bad and this leads to unbalanced skin that will be both irritated and unsightly. The good news is that there are plenty of great natural ways to eliminate your acne that won’t damage your healthy skin and will likely cost you a lot less time and money. Here are a few of my personal favorite tactics that I personally use and find very successful.

Banana Peels

One of the oldest and most used natural cures for acne is to place banana peels over the affected area as you would a facial mask. This may sound like a bunch of hocus pocus, but there is plenty of research to back up that tannins will draw the oils causing your acne straight from the skin while simultaneously nourishing the healthy skin. Tannins are released from bananas as they ripen, so they are one of the best sources for this type of homemade facial mask. The real trick is to make sure that your bananas are already very ripe with lots of black spots forming on the peel. This is the stage of ripening where the peels release the most tannin, plus you can use the over-ripened bananas to make banana bread as a bonus treat.

Change Your Soap

Rather than treat the symptoms of acne after it strikes, the better solution is to stop it from forming in the first place. One of the biggest causes of acne that most people forget to check is the type of soap that they use, and there are a variety of reasons that it can be triggering your acne. First, low quality soap can clog your pores and directly cause your acne. Second, the chemicals and dyes that are added to most commercial soaps can trigger small skin allergies which literally swell the pores causing acne to form. Consider using cold process soap to clean your face which doesn’t contain any added chemicals, dyes, or scents or has added tea tree oil which has been shown to aid in acne treatment.

Avoid Toxins

Toxins can really damage your skin and clog your pores, and that’s a recipe for acne. Most people know to avoid greasy potato chips, but even things like the smoke created by wedding sparklers or charcoal grills can cause clogged pores. Just keep those things in mind when you are at your next wedding or backyard barbeque this summer.

Organic Salves

When anyone says the word “organic”, the first thing many people think is that it’s going to be very expensive. However, you can put together your very own organic salve with things you already have in your kitchen which will help you battle your acne in an all-natural way. The main ingredient you want to use is manuka Honey which comes from New Zealand. The bees harvest pollen from the manuka bush and its properties show up in their honey. If you add a little tea tree oil to the honey, you can apply it to your acne like a salve to naturally cure your acne.

When trying to go the natural route, it’s important to remember that every person’s skin is different. These three things have really helped me manage my acne over the years, but that doesn’t guarantee they will work on your acne. Just keep trying the various natural remedies that are popular today and you are bound to find a natural way to eliminate your acne and prevent it from controlling your life.
